New York Comic CON 2010 (BONUS!)

Yesterday was my birthday so there was no new episode, but to make up for it here is the audio file I submitted that SUCCESSFULLY conned me into getting FREE PRESS PASSES to this year’s Comic Con.  Three of my cohosts and I pretended to be at Comic Con, talking about comic books and such, and I threw it over an audio bed of crowd noise and it FUCKING WORKED.  How crazy is that?

At last count, I think I conducted about 3 bazillion interviews (give or take a zillion) with various comic creators, actors, filmmakers, and other movers and shakers in and around the comic book and comic book movie industries.

Just in case you were on the floor, off the grid, or otherwise occupied this weekend, I’ve put together a quick recap of what you missed on Splash Page, as well as what you can look forward to in the coming weeks. Oh, and if you don’t hear from me for a few days, go ahead and call the authorities — I’m probably trapped underneath a pile of tapes! This year, we kicked things off early with a long interview with ReedPop VP Lance Fensterman, one of the chief organizers of New York Comic Con and many of the other big genre shows around the country. Day One of New York Comic Con had our very first exclusive announcement: Godzilla is returning to comics, courtesy of IDW Publishing and Toho Co., Ltd. We had your first look at Eric Powell’s cover art for the monstrous series! Just in case you weren’t on the floor yourself, we put together a gallery of NYCC costumes for you to peruse. It’s just like being there, and you don’t have to deal with any crowds or convention flu! More news from NYCC: The “Green Lantern” trailer will debut in front of the upcoming “Harry Potter” movie in November. Another NYCC exclusive announcement here on Splash Page: Actor Danny McBride will write a “Your Highness” prequel comic for Dark Horse Comics. We had your first look at the cover art by Sean Phillips. Over the course of the weekend, Todd McFarlane told us what’s holding up a new “Spawn” animated series, while Marvel TV chief Jeph Loeb responded to the results of our reader poll here on the site that named “Heroes For Hire” the most-wanted property for a live-action television series. During Day Two at New York Comic Con, “All Star Superman” producer Bruce Timm explained how the animated feature and its source material will match up, and Coheed & Cambria’s Claudio Sanchez addressed the synergy between his “Amory Wars” comics and his music. We also received confirmation and an official title for that Anthony Bourdain graphic novel, and the writer of the “Superman/Shazam!” animated short offered up some details about the plot of the DC Showcase project. And while that was most of the coverage we rolled out during the show, there’s still much, much more hitting the site in the coming weeks. Keep it locked to Splash Page for details about the “Spawn” live-action movie, the “Green Lantern” animated series, the return of “Thundercats” to television, as well as some updates on “The Flash” live-action movie and “The Walking Dead” television series!
